The case study
- The brief
- Nisa International Hospital in Maitama, Abuja engaged Outtabox to develop an upgrade initiative for its general reception and labour ward. The brief keeps the established architectural layout and operational flow, and improves how patients, families and staff experience them.
- The insight
- When a layout already works operationally, moving walls adds risk without adding value. The opportunity lies in what happens inside the plan, how people register and wait, how they know where to go, how staff see who needs help and how privacy is protected in the labour ward.
- Our response
- At reception the study brings together a digital registration kiosk, reception and nurse station, queue information display, patient and VIP waiting and filing, with legible connections to the central and elevator lobbies. In the labour ward it organises three labour rooms with accessible WCs, clean utility, a sterile area, staff changing, offices, theatre access, waiting, janitor provision and waste holding around dignity and staff movement. Lighting, finishes, furniture, wayfinding and brand are coordinated across both areas.
